Meet The Horses, Past & Present |
OUTSET (Micky Hammond) This is where it all started. Meet Outset, our star performer. Outset was such a game performer, 101% genuine with that touch of arrogance! A winner of 8 races for us and 15 places tells you nothing really, as he was at his very best at the big festival meetings. He ran at the Aintree Grand National Meeting three times and won the first time, was 4th the second and 2nd to Khayrahwani on his third visit. He won on his first visit to the Ayr Scottish National Meeting and he ran in the Tote Sandown Hurdle twice, finishing 2nd & 3rd, picking up over £7000 in prize money. At the tender age of 7-years-old he won his first Flat race in a hack canter at 33/1, then following up with two more easy wins at 11/1, how he was that big a price I will never know, he should have been about 3/1. Unfortunately he became dogged with injury problems and never did realise his true potential, especially over fences, which he was untried. So it was with very great sadness when he died in April 2003 from a heart attack after finishing 4th in his very first point-to-point at the grand old age of 13, after 4 years off the track. RIP old friend. |
UP IN FLAMES (Micky Hammond, Roy Bowring & Geraldine Rees) Willie Carson wins on Up In Flames in a £20,000 Mail On Sunday Handicap at the Epsom Derby Meeting in 1996 at 6/1, landing quite a touch for his syndicate members, having previously won at Haydock at 10/1 (from an early price of 16/1). He won 5 races and was placed over 20 times for us and continued running for the syndicate until he was 11 years old! He is now retired and is well looked after by ex-syndicate member Steve Dobson in Beverley. |
AL REET (Roy Bowring) ![]() Here is our well bred mare Al Reet (left on picture), winning at Doncaster under a strong drive from Dean McKeown at 9/1. She gave birth to a filly foal by Piccolo last year and is being covered by Celtic Swing in 2004. She is expected to breed some decent off-spring, having been LISTED PLACED in Ireland with GROUP WINNERS BEHIND in her hey day in 1995. Bodfari Dream (by Environment Friend) will be her first off-spring to run. |
INFIDELITY (Alan Bailey) ![]() She has been an absolutely cracking buy for us having run two really good races in maidens, followed by a win at 9/1 and sht-hd 2nd at 14/1 in 2003. We haven't seen the best of her so far in 2004, but she has had a legitimate excuse for her seemingly poor run of form this year. Expect a big turnaround in her form in her next couple of runs. |
SHARPCUT (Alan Bailey) ![]() Sharpcut is a very nice horse who originally cost over £300,000 and won 3 times from just 5 runs in 2002 for Prince Khalid Abdullah. We believe he had some sort of back trouble that stopped him from running last year and he was unable to make a comeback in 2004 due to a slight leg injury and is now being targeted at the Chester Cup in 2005. Alan Bailey is adamant that there is a very big race to be won with him. |

Pepitist was an absolute gentleman
of a horse and still holds a very warm place in my heart, he was such
a friendly horse that you couldn't help but almost treat him as a mate;
but was once described by Jack Ramsden (his wife Linda was his first
trainer) as a "dog" and that he would never win! Jack's usually
a pretty shrewd bloke, but he got it wrong with this one, as he did
win for us over both hurdles and fences! He looked to have the makings
of becoming a very smart novice chaser before tragedy struck at Leicester
races, where his hind tendon was severely cut into and he had to be
put down on humane grounds. |

QUIBBLE (Alan Bailey) A horse that we have persevered with who has plenty of ability but has been sidelined with injury for 18 months. He is now back in training and will be running over hurdles and on the Flat from November. He is available at £160 per month with NO 12 MONTH CONTRACT TO SIGN as a gesture of goodwill. Well worth a punt at the price with no long-term ties or agreement! You stay in the syndicate for as long as you want and if he becomes injured again, then the syndicate is wound-up and all monthly payments will cease. All prizemoney won will be shared out equally and it will be the responsibility of the Syndicate Manager to ensure he is found a good home. It must be said though that his trainer, Alan Bailey, is a very shrewd man and is confident that he will win a few races for us.
